Author Quest

Ever on the lookout for out of the box thinking, the Department has introduced the novel concept of ‘Author Quest’. Author Quest is a student literary quiz in which each participating college is allowed to choose an author as their subject. These colleges are then quizzed only on that author in a daylong event. The quiz comprises of preliminary written rounds and final rounds in the oral format. This unique quiz has been run by the department for the last four years. The Quiz involves a good amount of research from the faculty since each teacher is assigned a number of authors and they have to prepare 100 questions painstakingly, ensuring the expected level of competence and quality. Moreover, these questions are divided into a number of themes. Hence the exercise is simultaneously empowering the participants and those who compile the questions. The Dept. has already run five editions of the programme.

Author Quest 2010-11

It was a quiz all in a class of its own at Unity women’s College on 9th March 2011. Department of English of Unity Women’s College organised ‘Author Quest’, an author centered, Inter-college quiz  in which the questions were focussed exclusively on one author. The colleges were assigned authors well in advance and they were given sufficient time to do exhaustive work on the authors. Care has been taken to allot authors who are prominent and have featured in the course of study. Similar attention was taken in distributing appropriate authors to colleges offering English Literature options at the Gracduate and postgraduate levels. Colleges which do not offer Literature programmes were provided authors who were generally anthologised.

The goal of this out-of-the-box quizzing is in line with the renewed modes of learning and interaction promoted by the revised curriculum at the Graduate and post graduate levels of education. Dr. K.
